The Gift Car

Shopping. A hodgepodge of products. Online and offline purchases. Boxes that arrive in the mail and are never opened. Possession. We do not need so much, but we also cannot let go, struggling to keep away from our belongings, and really look at our need for them. It's not even a need – it is a compulsion, practically a system.

At Fresh Paint 11 I offer a practice of letting go of things and giving them as gifts. After collecting objects from people who decided it was time to let go, I wrapped them, and now I am handing them out as gifts from an ice-cream van, itself covered with wrapping paper. Fresh Paint visitors can pick an object as a gift, without knowing what they chose.
