Community Work
Freshpaint 2020 has been canceled, and instead we held a Special Online Edition, showcasing our community programming. Within the special edition, the Artists’ Greenhouse and a new Design Greenhouse offered for sale some of the best art and design works by the young, independent Israeli creative community.
Alongside the greenhouses, the Special Online Edition presented Freshpaint’s two established community projects:
Over 1,300 postcards were put up for sale in The Secret Postcard project – this year in collaboration with Arison Campus of the Arts – School of the Arts, Tel Aviv. All of the postcards were sold in collaboration with mako and the proceeds from the project are all dedicated to the continuity of the art studies in the school, and to providing support for the school’s students arriving from disadvantaged backgrounds, allowing them to realize their unique talents, in a contribution to a true narrowing of social gaps. This year we managed to raise over 215,000 NIS!
The Special Edition also featured Don’t DIS my ABILITY! - a unique project of JDC Israel and the Bezalel Visual Communication Department, as an online photography exhibition.
The project’s founders brought together people with disabilities and students from Bezalel Visual Communication Department, for a joint creative process. This process took place within a unique ‘artivistic’ space combining art and social activism, and its main purpose was to shatter common stigmas regarding people with disabilities – focusing on sexuality and sensuality. The creators documented their personal encounters and gave them visual form as photographic portraits and fascinating interviews.
The exhibition was created with the guidance of Itai Ron Gilboa, an artist and a graduate of the Bezalel Visual Communication Department, and Zeev Engelmayer, an artist, activist, and a lecturer at Bezalel Visual Communication Department.
Since its first year, Fresh Paint Art Fair has supported artistic activity for the community.
