Fresh Paint 9 / 2017

Fresh Paint Art Fair #9 took place at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History in April 2017.

The fair, which attracted over 30,000 visitors, featured exhibitions and projects by galleries and curators alongside the Artists Greenhouse, which boasted works by 54 independent artists. At Fresh Design complex, leading Israeli designers presented new collections and special projects created especially for the fair, among them PRAXIS – an experimental exhibit of Bezalel’s Technology Incubator, The Kids with Magical Characters community project, initiated by Dor Carmon Studio in collaboration with the Oncology Department of the Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital, and more.

In tribute to the Natural Museum setting, the fair displayed an exhibition titled Transformation, which featured artworks that centered around the themes of still life, construction, and deconstruction of natural elements, mutations, man versus nature, hybridity, and natural phenomena like climate, weathering, and erosion. Artworks from Romania, Lithuania, United States, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Norway, Slovak Republic, Spain, Denmark, United Kingdom, and Brazil joined local artworks to form a “Noah’s Ark” of ideas and responses to man’s complex relationship with nature.

In the Independent Artists Greenhouse, Sotheby's Under the Hammer experts selected artist Nirit Takale, in the Video Greenhouse, artist Netta Laufer received an honorable mention from the CCA – Center of Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv, and in Fresh Design complex, designer Chen Bikovski received XNET people’s choice award.

Fresh Paint’s successful social project, The Secret Postcard, sold 600 postcards, rasing more than 100,000 NIS for the excellence in art program of Meyerhoff Art Education Centre at the Tel Aviv Museum.

The large-scale design project Blocks by Kukka Studio was presented with the support of the British Council and Corticeira Amorim, Portugal. Sponsored by Maccabee Beer’s Dream Project, which offered an unprecedented support for an individual project, artist Tal Engelstein created the installation Untitled at the entrance to the fair.

Throughout the fair, Fresh Paint Salon offered a special program for the general public, with creative workshops for families during the weekend.
