Matan Mittwoch photographs sculptural environments, or alternatively sculpts in photography. His works exist in a space and a situation intended for the photographer’s eyes only, yet from this still, deserted and artificial world Mittwoch creates a reality in itself. Mittwoch photographs bureaucratic environments populated by items that echo the tradition of minimalist and post-minimalist art making, combining photography, sculpture and architecture. He deals with a local environment, mainly offices, devoid of any majesty or stylistic ornamentation. By highlighting the lack of attention given to the finishing and preservation of these places, Mittwoch aims to create an updated photographic homage to the culture of “The Want of Matter”.
