Elham Rokni’s work combines different mediums: video, film, animation, painting, drawing and collage. Her works are anchored in issues that are currently preoccupying contemporary art, but while giving rise to thoughtful and opinionated reactions, they also provoke in the viewers a noticeable emotional reaction. Rokni’s works deal with the body, and move between horror and grace, contemporary thrills and nostalgic sentimentality, Western images and sights and crafts from the oriental Eastern culture. Rokni successfully combines historical memories (such as of the photographer Eadweard Muybridge) and biographical memories (of her childhood in Iran) into a language that highlights the special sound of the feminine voice.
