Dan Allon / Fresh Paint 11 / Exhibition
In this work, I combine the story of the LGBT community in São Paulo in the 1960s in the national history of the Jews in Brazil. In the piece, my mother's two uncles, who fled to Brazilfrom Nazi Germany, become one artist - the painter of the Jewish community. This “uncle” conveys messages to his brother in Israel that “everything is fine” via paintings/letters, but during the performance transitions from men to woman, exposing the difficulty of being Jewish, let alone a transgender woman, in 1960s Brazil.
