CONSPIRACY THEORY / Fresh Paint 4 / Project

49 paintings, acrylic and oil on canvas, 20x25 cm each

This group of works presents the possible relations between theory and art, and more specifically - between the polar forces of philosophy and painting. Each of the paintings comprising the group refers in a different way - whether directly and didactically or associatively and obscurely - to the theory and philosophy of French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan (1901-1981). The modernist grid, within which these paintings are presented, suggests a possible unification and merger of different components into a single coherent theory. This concept, of a unified whole, contradicts itself in its reference to Lacan's ideas, which negate the very possibility of unity and wholeness in favor of the constant existence of lack. Nevertheless, this cycle of works may offer an introduction to a set of concepts ordinarily inaccessible to the viewer.
